Health Sciences is the first choice among students, faculty, and professionals with an interest in health, safety, and the environment. Our mission is to create extraordinary learning opportunities supported by ongoing scholarship and meaningful service. Programs include Environmental Health, Health Education, Health Information Management, Medical Laboratory Science, and Safety. Majors have the opportunity to pursue professional positions in a variety of fields: health promotion and disease prevention, public and environmental health, dissemination of health information, test reporting, safety and health, and more.

The Environmental Health (EH) Program at Illinois State University develops professionals who work to ensure public and environmental health. The Environmental Health Program offers both a major and a minor. Environmental Health focuses on the assessment, control, and prevention of biological, chemical, and physical hazards in our environment that may lead to human health problems or environmental damage.

The Health Education Program at Illinois State University prepares students for professional positions in a variety of fields focused on health promotion and disease prevention.

Health Information Management professionals play a critical role in managing the collection, maintenance, and analysis of the medical data that healthcare professionals rely on to deliver, manage and finance quality patient care.

Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), formerly known as Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), professionals generate, interpret, and report test results vital in making a timely and accurate diagnosis. Attention to detail and problem solving skills are highly valued in this profession.

In the Safety Program at Illinois State University we prepare our students to serve as competent safety professionals by developing the skill set and intellectual confidence needed to support critical recognition and control of workplace safety and health hazards. We devote all of our resources and energies to creating extraordinary learning opportunities for our students that are based upon a foundation in the sciences and emphasize the technical, managerial, and ethical aspects of safety and health.
